AI in manufacturing

Manufacturing AI tends to sit on the line, in the maintenance schedule, and in the file shared with a supplier. The Intelligence Audit reads those uses from the inside, including safety and export duties where the data or the product is controlled.

01

How AI shows up

Vision tools judge a part. Predictive maintenance ranks which machine is next. Scheduling and yield models change the plan for the shift. Supplier portals and quality systems summarize what a vendor sent. Design tools draft a process or a drawing that later leaves the building.

Worker-monitoring and safety systems are a separate class. They can shape a discipline decision or a stop-work call, not only a throughput number. Staff also paste drawings and process notes into public tools when the approved path is slow. That is shadow AI, and it is in scope.

02

Rules the audit looks at

The names below are examples the Regulatory and Compliance part and the Sector Controls part look at with your counsel. Listing one is not a determination that it applies to you, and it is not legal advice.

  • Workplace safety rules, including OSHA, where a system touches how people work on the floor or how an incident is judged
  • The Export Administration Regulations, where technical data or controlled software is shared with a vendor or sent outside the plant
  • The International Traffic in Arms Regulations, where the product or the data is a defense article or technical data
  • The Colorado AI Act, where a system makes or strongly shapes a consequential decision about a worker

A quality camera on a part is not an export. A drawing of a controlled item, pasted into a vendor model hosted abroad, can be. The audit separates them. Your counsel confirms the classification and the safety duty. We do not issue an export determination.

What the audit checks

Sector Controls follows the plant and the supplier file. It tests whether a model output can stop a line, scrap a part, or mark a worker, and who owns that decision. It also tests whether controlled technical data sits in a prompt, a log, or a vendor's environment. Regulatory and Compliance maps the places you operate and ship, with your counsel.

Go-to-Market covers how AI is used to quote, to find distributors, and to describe a product's performance. The TCPA and the FTC are examples where outreach and advertising claims are in play, not a legal opinion. Vendor review and the security review matter because a maintenance vendor can see more of the process than the contract says.

Before we walk you through it, every Intelligence Audit is reviewed with our counsel. The review is ours, and it is not legal advice to you. The next step after the Assessment report is the Discovery Call.

Questions about this sector

When do export controls enter a manufacturing AI audit?

They enter when technical data or controlled software is shared with a vendor, placed in a model, or sent outside the plant. The Export Administration Regulations are the general example. The International Traffic in Arms Regulations is the example when the item is a defense article. The audit asks what data moved. Your counsel confirms the classification. We do not issue one.

What does Sector Controls check on a plant floor?

It checks the path from a model to a production decision: quality, maintenance, scheduling, and any system that judges how a person worked. The test uses real records, read-only and with permission. It is part of the eleven-part Intelligence Audit.

Is a safety system in scope if it only watches the line?

Yes, if the output can change a stop-work call, a maintenance order, or a decision about a worker. Watching a line is still a use. OSHA and related safety duties are examples the audit looks at with your counsel, not a citation we issue.
